CE supports Kwun Tong revamp

Chief Executive Donald Tsang says revitalisation of Kwun Tong is as timely as it is essential, adding the Government and the Urban Renewal Authority will study arrangements for its redevelopment.

During his visit to the district today, Mr Tsang said the project will improve building quality and ease traffic congestion. The authority will need to consult numerous parties as the project will affect a large number of households and shopowners.

Mr Tsang toured the redevelopment area including Yan Oi Court, Yan Shun Lane and Yue Man Square Garden and took a panoramic view of the area from a shopping mall.

"Most of the buildings in the district are dilapidated with poor living conditions. Revitalisation of the district is as timely as it is essential," he said.

The Chief Executive then visited the Salvation Army's Tak Tin Community Day Rehabilitation Service in Tak Tin Estate, where rehabilitation services are provided to enhance the abilities and basic working skills of mentally-challenged trainees.

Mr Tsang saw some trainees learn basic cookery, computer skills and cloth weaving and helped create a mosaic handicraft with some colourful pebbles.

"The Government will continue to study various hostel services for the disabled and strengthen community support for the provision of more services to people with disabilities and their family members," Mr Tsang said.
