The International Society for the Performing Arts has today awarded "Distinguished Artist Awards" to Taiwan Cloud Gate Dance Company's Lin Hwai-min, and Hong KongCantonese opera artist Pak Suet-sin.

An "International Citation of Merit" went to ex-schoolmaster of Hong Kong Performing Arts Academy Professor Lo King-man.

Taiwan's Cloud Gate Dance Theatre founder and artistic director Lin Hwai-min is one of the most renowned choreographers in Asia. He draws his inspiration from Asian cultures and aesthetics to create works with contemporary resonance.

Pak Suet-sin is a legendary figure and one of the most enduring stars in Cantonese opera. She formed the Sin Fung Ming Cantonese Opera Troupe in 1956 with her life-long partner, Yam Kim-fai.

They injected new elements into script writing, the performing style, singing technique, body movement and various aspects of stage design, setting new standards in stage aesthetics.

Prof Lo has years of experience in the performing arts. Over a period of 40 years, he has written, produced, directed and designed for the stage internationally with more than 150 works to his credit. He has also had a distinguished career in higher education administration and public service in the arts.

The International Society for the Performing Arts' 20th International Congress, under the theme of "The New Silk Road for the Performing Arts", is running from June 6 to 11, and has recorded the highest registration rate for the summer congress in the past 10 years with about 300 candidates from more than 30 countries.
