Permanent Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Carrie Yau urges people to step up their mosquito prevention efforts as the ovitrap indices in some districts are expected to rise to an alert level next month.
Speaking after her visit to Kam Tsin Pond in Sheung Shui today, Mrs Yau said although the ovitrap survey results in the first few months are on the low side, there have been 11 imported Dengue fever cases to date.
"The public should stay alert and adopt anti-mosquito measures, especially when the weather had become warmer and damper, providing more favourable conditions for mosquito breeding."
Mrs Yau said the environmental hygiene in Kam Tsin Pond has improved following the implementation of an anti-mosquito project there from last August to January.
The departments concerned will continue to carry out improvement measures there to keep the environment clean and free of mosquito-breeding problems.
Mrs Yau said a series of actions were taken last year to eliminate mosquito breeding in high-risk areas and the Government has recently amended the Public Health & Municipal Services Ordinance to hold a property's management body legally liable for mosquito breeding in common areas.
