Eligible organisations and individuals are invited to apply for a funding scheme to acquire equipment that helps the sight-impaired to use the Internet. Applications close June 2.
The scheme supports non-governmental and non-profit organisations and tertiary institutions, and subsidises visually-impaired people in need of these devices for study or work. They are: advanced Chinese screen readers, such as Chinese JAWS or its compatible; and, Braille displays of 40 cells, such as PowerBraille or PAC Mate or its compatible.
Successful organisational applicants will be given Chinese screen reader and Braille display. For individual applicants, the subsidy for Chinese screen reader will not be more than $9,800 and for Braille display, 75% of the cost or $27,000, whichever is less.
