Mortuary mix-up investigated
*
Department of Health

The Department of Health is investigating a body mix-up at Fu Shan Public Mortuary. Director of Health Dr Lam Ping-yan is very concerned about the incident and will appoint an independent committee to review the mix-up and the mortuary's procedures.

Deputy Director Dr Leung Ting-hung apologised tonight to the concerned families for the incident, in which a man's body was reportedly taken by the wrong family and cremated.

Dr Leung expects the investigation to be completed in two weeks, adding appropriate action will be taken if staff are found to be at fault. The identities of all bodies at the mortuary have been reconfirmed since the incident.

Other public mortuaries have been reminded to strictly adhere to procedures and guidelines.
