Preliminary testing of a house crow found dead in Cheung Sha Wan has indicated a suspected case of H5 avian influenza, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department says. More tests are being conducted.
The carcass was collected from Lai On Estate on February 20.
The Centre for Health Protection urged people to avoid wild birds and ensure personal and environmental hygiene.
Guidelines on bird management are available on the department's website. Information on influenza or avian flu is available on the centre's website and from the Central Health Education Unit at 2833 0111.
