Cultural project body to be formed in March
*

Secretary for Home Affairs Dr Patrick Ho says the consultative committee for the West Kowloon Cultural District project will be formed in March, adding the committee members' nominations will be submitted to the Chief Executive this week.

Dr Ho today said the committee, to be chaired by the Chief Secretary, will comprise about 20 members.

The secretary believed the committee's findings on the district's arts facilities will not deviate greatly from the original proposal. However, the committee will have to re-examine the suggestion of having four museums in the district.

Creative freedom respected

Dr Ho said the Government does have a clear cultural policy which is to respect creative freedom and freedom of expression.

"The Government will do its best to provide an opportunity for every citizen to come into contact with art and cultural presentations and participate in cultural and artistic activities.

"It would adopt the role of a catalyst, or an advocate but not necessarily as a manager for art and cultural affairs."

Dr Ho said the Government will continue to discuss art funding and venue policies with the community and study how to cater for citizens' needs.
