More affected in poon choi poisoning
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed that another 104 people have fallen ill after eating poon choi bought from the Pak Ka Pun Choi restaurant in Yuen Long, bringing the total number of people affected to 378.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a bacteria causing gastrointestinal symptoms, has been identified in samples.

The 176 men and 202 women aged one to 86, developed fever, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and vomiting after eating poon choi on January 29. One patient who was admitted to St Teresa's Hospital has been discharged. Seventy-six others consulted private doctors and 72 sought treatment from public hospitals.

Pak Ka Pun Choi has been closed for thorough cleansing and disinfection.

The centre said it is possible that more previously infected cases will appear in the coming days. Further investigations are underway.
