Plan to convert car park into youth centre
*

The Housing Department plans to convert the sixth floor of Tin Heng Estate Car Park into a youth services centre with recreational facilities.

Design plans are expected to be finalised next month with the project scheduled for completion within 2006. The cost of the project will be borne by the department.

The plans were made in response to a request from the Yuen Long District Council and the Social Welfare Department following a family tragedy in the area last year, Senior Housing Manager Lau Sing-chau said.

Centre to be managed by Social Welfare

Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Michael Suen and two Housing Authority members today visited the estate and were briefed on the plans.

The Integrated Youth Service Centre will be built on the 6A floor level at Tin Heng Estate Car Park and it will be managed by the Social Welfare Department on completion.

The centre will provide meeting and multi-purpose rooms for welfare and voluntary organisations in the district.

Tile replacement under way

Mr Suen then visited the 26th and 27th floors of Heng Cheuk House to see the progress of tile replacement works. Tin Heng Estate is one of eight public rental housing estates in Tin Shui Wai that are in need of wall tiles being replaced.

It is estimated that the area in need of retiling totals 24,300 square metres. Work has been completed on 75% of the affected area with the remaining work scheduled for completion in March next year.
