Proper drain maintenance urged
*
Buildings Department

Building owners should properly maintain drainage pipes and regularly refill U-traps to ensure environmental hygiene, the Buildings Department says.

U-traps stop bad smells and unhygienic substances in the drainage system from entering living areas. Defective or dried U-traps can negate the function.

Good maintenance of the sanitary system will reduce the chance of germs spreading in domestic premises. Building owners and occupiers should inspect drainage pipes, U-traps and sanitary fittings and arrange immediate repair by qualified contractors if damage is found. Water should also be added to U-traps regularly.
