District healthy workplace campaign launches

*
Department of Health

A publicity drive to promote the concept of a healthy workplace among employers and employees has been launched in Kwun Tong, the first district-based event under the city-wide healthy diet campaign.

Department of Health Senior Medical & Health Officer Dr SF Tsang said the event aims to increase the awareness of "Two plus Three Every Day" - a daily intake of at least two servings of fruits and three of vegetables as part of a balanced diet - among the working population in Kwun Tong and to encourage them to build up the good habit.

He noted employers and employees can work together to improve personal health, increase work efficiency and achieve greater success in business through adjustments in organisation policy and culture, improvements in working environment and changes in lifestyle.

Many of the working staff rush to finish their meals at their offices due to lack of time or trouble in finding fruits and vegetables. This will adversely affect their health in the long run.

Fruit, vegetable consumption essential to balanced diet

Dr Tsang said eating fruits and vegetables daily is essential to a balanced diet. They provide abundant amounts of nutrients to the body and help prevent chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, cancers, diabetes and obesity.

The event, with roving exhibitions, seminars and a quiz, will be held at different intervals at different locations inside the Millennium City at Kwun Tong Road until October 21.

"We shall assess the effectiveness of the activities afterwards for future reference. Meanwhile, we are liaising with organisations of other districts to explore the possibility for similar activities in future," Dr Tsang added.
