HPC logo (Eng version)

The Centre for Health Protection has received a Streptococcus suis infection report involving a 44-year-old man, bringing the year's total to nine.

The Tin Shui Wai resident developed fever, and pain in his right little finger and left thigh on August 12, and was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital in stable condition. He has no recent travel history, but had a finger injury. His home contacts have no symptoms.

People are advised to observe personal and environmental hygiene and avoid contact with pigs. If contact with pigs or raw pork is necessary:

* use protective gloves;

* wash hands after handling; and,

* clean and cover all wounds.

Click here or visit the Travellers' Health Service website for more information on Streptococcus suis.
