Olympic Square unveiled at HK Park

Olympic Square
New landmark: Olympic Square is unveiled by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge.
*

Olympic Square at Hong Kong Park will become a new landmark symbolising the Olympic spirit, Hong Kong Sports Federation & Olympic Committee President Timothy Fok says. It was unveiled today by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge.

Mr Fok said it will also be a focal point for holding activities promoting the 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Games and other major sports events. The Government has converted the park's Garden Plaza into Olympic Square to tie in with the 2009 Games.

The square retains the plaza's original amphitheatre layout and columns, but the colonnade is now surmounted by the Olympic logo.

Further upgrades include the installation of flag poles and a cauldron for torch lighting, to be completed by the end of October.
