16 ill in Mong Kok food poisoning
*
Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a food poisoning case involving 16 people. They developed diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting after eating at a Mong Kok restaurant on June 21.

The nine men and seven women are aged 19 to 58. Six sought treatment from private doctors and three others approached public hospitals. None required hospitalisation.

To prevent food-borne diseases:

* clean and cook food thoroughly before consumption, particularly seafood;

* wash hands before eating and after going to the toilet;

* handle raw and cooked food with separate utensils to prevent cross contamination;

* keep raw and cooked food separately;

* store food in refrigerator (at four degrees Celsius or below) and adequately reheat leftover food before consumption; and,

* keep the environment clean.
