Budding designers are invited to join the 2005 Lantern Design Competition jointly organised by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and the Education & Manpower Bureau.

The competition promotes lantern making and traditional Chinese arts. It is divided into three divisions - primary school, secondary school, and the open division for tertiary students and the public.

Each participant can enter one design in one division, but the lantern can be made by a group of up to four. Participants should send entry forms to the department's Entertainment Office, 6/F, Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, or by fax to 2575 0864 by July 22.

Handmade lanterns with labels issued by the organiser should be submitted to the Exhibition Gallery, G/F, Hong Kong Central Library, 66 Causeway Road, Causeway Bay from September 10 to 12 from 10am to 7pm.

The first three winners of each division will be awarded a book coupon worth $1,800, $1,500 and $1,200, and entries judged to be outstanding will be awarded book coupons of $400. All lanterns will be displayed at Central Library from September 16 to October 1.
