The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed Enterovirus-71 in a 2-year-old girl, bringing this year's total to two.
The girl developed oral lesions and a rash on May 4, and has recovered. She has no recent travel history. Her mother developed symptoms of hand-foot-mouth disease on May 9 but has recovered. Other home contacts have not developed symptoms.
The girl and 11 other children, aged from 2 to 4, studying in the same Tsing Yi child care centre developed hand-foot-mouth symptoms. A 4-year-old girl's stool tested positive for EV-71 yesterday. The others are in stable condition and none required hospitalisation.
The Centre for Health Protection called on people to guard against infection and maintain good personal and environmental hygiene.
