Vietnam avian flu report investigated
*
Department of Health

The Department of Health is monitoring an avian influenza report in Vietnam in which a nine-year-old boy is suspected to have died from the virus.

It has been keeping a close watch on the situation and maintaining close liaison with relevant health authorities to obtain the latest information.

The department says preventive measures have been taken since the last case of suspected avian flu was reported in Vietnam last week. No travellers have been symptomatic so far.

Leaflets containing information about the situation and health advice are being distributed to passengers leaving for the country. They are advised not to touch chickens or visit farms.

Doctors and hospitals in Hong Kong and the travel industry have been alerted.
