A New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival featuring a variety of performances and entertainment and a spectacular light show will be held at Shatin Park.

The carnival starts at 8.30pm on December 31 and runs until 12.30am.

Attractions will include excerpts of popular musicals, acrobatics, magic shows, a marching band, jazz music and drum-and-dance performances. Admission is free.

The main stage in Shatin Park will feature entertainment including a marching band and acrobatic performances by "Guangxi Eastern Cultural Art Troupe" and local performing groups.

The "Hong Kong Musicals Theatre Federation" will present excerpts of Broadway Musicals "Phantom of the Opera", "Mama Mia", "Les Miserables", "Miss Saigon". They will also perform highlights from local productions "1941" and "The Border Town".

Midnight will see the launch of a spectacular light show to ring in 2005.

Something for everyone, young and old

The rhythm of modern dance as well as African and Brazilian drum and dance performances will add to the excitement.
