Yuen Long illegal slaughterhouse shut down
*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

Food & Environmental Hygiene Department officers have shut down an illegal slaughterhouse in Yuen Long, arresting two men and seizing unstamped pig carcasses and live pigs.

Offices searched a container in Man Yuen Tsuen today and found nine unstamped carcasses and some offal. Six live pigs and some slaughtering equipment were also seized.

Two men, one of them holding a two-way permit, were arrested for illegal slaughtering. They will be charged with operating a slaughterhouse without a licence, illegal slaughtering of food animals for human consumption and possession of prohibited food. The man holding a two-way permit is under investigation for breaching conditions of stay.

Anyone who has doubts about the origin of meat being sold at a retail outlet should call the department's hotline 2868 0000.
