Better hygiene
For hygienic operation, the market features a new meat delivery system. Each meat stall has a storage area and processing bench. There are also retractable hanging rails for displaying meat and a sink for cleaning.
Fish stalls have full-length display trays fitted with large wash-up sinks and anti-splash guards to help keep floors dry.
Poultry stalls are partitioned from other stalls and have dedicated access and a separate ventilation system.
The three-storey market occupies a total floor area of 12,000 square metres and houses over 300 stalls. The main entrance opens direct to the ground floor and brings patrons to the first and second floors via two flights of escalators.
On the ground and first floors, large and small stalls offer a wide range of food and non-food commodities including fish, meat, siu mei and lo mei, poultry, fruit, vegetables, flowers and household items.
The second floor houses a cooked-food centre, comprising 40 stalls with comfortable tables and chairs for dining in.
Prominent signs to promote customer service
To promote customer service, prominent directional signs are provided inside the market and individual stall zones are painted in eye-catching, specific colour schemes.
Electronic billboards and information panels will display health messages, and the market will also have more benches and drinking fountains for convenience.
The new market has been built to relocate tenants in the Tai Po Temporary Market, which will close after business on August 31.
To encourage patronage of the new market, the department will start advertising at the district's railway stations and bus stops in the next two weeks.
