Import quarantine requirements for chilled ducks and geese are consistent with international practice, the Health, Welfare & Food Bureau says.
Responding to poultry traders' allegations that the requirements are set at a high level that the Mainland is unable to comply with, the bureau said they meet World Organisation for Animal Health guidelines and are essentially the same as they were before the regional bird flu outbreaks in February.
The only requirement considered essential and necessary is to ensure that chilled ducks and geese should come from farms unaffected by avian flu.
