Kowloon Park Swimming Pool's water is up to standard and suitable for swimming according to tests, Assistant Director of Leisure Services Paul Cheung says.
Responding to reports today about red worms being seen in the pool, Mr Cheung said experts from the Food & Environmental Hygiene, Health, Water Services, and Electrical & Mechanical Services Departments will conduct a detailed on-site study at the pool tonight to confirm the source of the worms.
"We took immediate action once we received complaints from swimmers about the worms. These included cleaning up the worms and enhancing disinfection," he said.
The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department has checked the sterilisation and filtration systems and confirmed both are operating normally. Worm specimens have been submitted to the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department for examination. It is believed they are not dangerous to humans.
Regular water quality tests conducted
The Leisure & Cultural Services Department has advanced cleaning equipment and sterilisation systems and conducts regular water quality tests at all its 36 pools.
"During the pool opening season, separate specimens of pool water are sent to the Water Supplies Department and the Department of Health on a monthly basis for chemical and bacteriological tests," Mr Cheung said.
"Tests on the pool water samples will be done on an hourly basis, and thorough disinfection and cleaning will be carried out at the pools every day."
Mr Cheung added that his department has also stepped up daily cleaning and anti-mosquito operations at the pools.
