Live birds and poultry meat imports, including ostrich, from South Africa have been temporarily suspended following reports avian influenza has been diagnosed in ostriches in Eastern Cape Province.

The Health, Welfare & Food Bureau said today the ban is immediate and will stay in effect until further notice. Birds in transit will be subject to tests and quarantine.
