Experts to investigate boy's electrocution

*
Housing Department

An inter-departmental working group has been set up to investigate the electrocution of a teenager in Tai Yuen Estate on August 5. It comprises representatives from the Electrical & Mechanical Services, Fire Services and Housing Departments.

The initial investigation will be completed early next week. The Housing Department will in the meantime inspect all electric conduit installations in 150 public rental housing estates.

Deputy Director of Housing Lau Kai-hung said the incident was unprecedented in a public estate. He said the department conducts regular inspection and maintenance of electrical installations in estates.

Installations are fitted with residual-current and mini-nature circuit breakers to ensure safety and meet legislative requirements.

The electric conduit at Tai Yuen Estate forms part of its fire safety installations. An annual inspection of the estate's installations was completed in June and a certificate issued.

Mr Lau called on residents not to touch any electric conduits or installations.
