A Tai Kok Tsui restaurant has been shut down for thorough disinfection following the discovery of vibrio cholerae in its fish tank.
The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department today ordered the temporary closure of the Chung Wui Street eatery after receiving the results of a water sample taken on July 12.
Department officers will conduct thorough disinfection and cleaning, and the restaurant will remain closed until this is completed. It will be re-opened when the Director is satisfied with its overall hygiene conditions and that there is no immediate health hazard.
Vibrio cholerae cannot survive high temperatures and can be killed through thorough cooking.
To prevent cholera, people are advised to eat food that has been cooked thoroughly, both at home and when eating in restaurants. They should also pay attention to personal and food hygiene, and be extra cautious in consuming seafood and ready-to-eat food, particularly in summer.
