The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an imported Dengue fever case, bringing this year's total to 16.
The 57-year-old man travelled to a Southeast Asian country on June 27 and returned to Hong Kong on July 3. He developed fever and headache on July 5, and recovered and was discharged from Prince of Wales Hospital on July 16.
The centre urged people to stay alert to the threat of Dengue fever and take anti-mosquito measures.
To avoid mosquito bites, people should:
* put all used cans and bottles into dustbins with covers;
* change water for plants at least once a week, leaving no water in the saucers underneath flowerpots;
* cover tightly all water containers, wells and water storage tanks; and,
* keep all drains clear.
Travellers should:
* wear long-sleeved tops and trousers;
* use insect repellent; and,
* use mosquito screens or nets when rooms are not air-conditioned.
People who feel unwell after returning from their trip should consult a doctor as soon as possible.
