Centre for Health Protection

The Centre for Health Protection has found enterovirus-71 in  two baby girls, bringing this year's total to 20.

A 23-month-old baby developed a rash and mouth ulcers on June 18 while the other, a 25-month-old, developed a fever, rash and mouth ulcers on June 15. Both recovered without hospitalisation and have not travelled outside Hong Kong recently.

Their family members had no symptoms of the disease.

A total of 18 babies, aged from nine months to 32 months, all from a Tsuen Wan childcare centre, came down with hand, foot and mouth disease from June 6 to 18. Most of them have recovered and none developed complications or required hospitalisation.

The centre called on people to guard against infection and maintain good personal and environmental hygiene.
