The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed enterovirus-71 in two young brothers, bringing this year's total cases to 17.

The eldest, two, developed fever, rash, an oral ulcer and vesicles on his limbs on June 11. His 10-month-old sibling developed the same symptoms on June 19 and both have recovered without hospitalisation. The three other people in contact with the patients are asymptomatic.

Eighteen youngsters (including the first case, aged between nine and 32 months) of a Tsuen Wan childcare centre have come down with hand, foot and mouth disease from June 6 to 18. All have recovered and none developed complications or required hospitalisation.

The centre called on people to guard against infection and maintain good personal and environmental hygiene.

For more advice on disease prevention, click here or call the central health education hotline 2833 0111.
