The Department of Health advises consumers not to buy and use a health product called Super Power 72.
It contains sildenafil which is a Western drug ingredient used for impotence. A doctor must supervise its use as it can cause side effects like serious hypotension amongst people with heart disease.
The supplier has been instructed to recall the product within seven days and surrender it to the department.
Consumers who have purchased it are advised to stop using it, dispose of it or surrender it to the department's Pharmaceutical Service at the Public Health Laboratory Centre, 3/F, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon during office hours. The department will issue them with a receipt.
There is also a telephone hotline 2319 2839 to answer public enquiries during office hours tomorrow.
Products containing Western medicine are pharmaceutical products and must be registered under the Pharmacy & Poisons Ordinance before they can be sold. This product has not been registered.
Possession and sale of unregistered pharmaceutical products is an offence liable to a maximum penalty of a $100,000 fine and two years' imprisonment. Retailers should remove the product from shelves.
