New enterovirus case confirmed

*
Department of Health

The Department of Health has confirmed an enterovirus-71 infection involving a two-year-old girl who recovered and was discharged from hospital on May 13. The case brings this year's total to eight.

The girl came down with fever, blisters on her limbs and oral ulcers on May 8.  She was sent to hospital on May 10 for treatment.

The department said this case was related to three earlier confirmed cases of hand, foot and mouth disease in the same creche. None of the children with the disease in this outbreak has developed complications and all have recovered.

The department also called on the public to stay alert to the threat of enterovirus infection and take precautionary measures. For details, call the department's health education hotline, 2833 0111, or click here.
