Mong Kok archaeological dig ends

*

Works are set to resume on the Mong Kok drainage site where a host of relics have been discovered.

The Antiquities & Monuments Office said its archaeological monitoring work at the site, on the junction of Tung Choi and Soy Streets, has been completed.

No further finds were made during a seven-hour search today, and it is believed all relics have been salvaged. The site has been handed back to the Drainage Services Department.

Four flat-bottomed pots in complete condition were unearthed on May 7. A preliminary examination suggests they were Jin dynasty (265 - 420) burial artefacts. They have been put on display at the Museum of History.

Some 174 pieces of other relics were also unearthed in a second excavation on May 10. Major items included a pot, fragments of pottery cauldrons, kiln debris, various ceramic fragments and green brick.

They will also be put on display at the museum from tomorrow until May 31.
