Total recall: Sanyo EF-12KA wall-mounted electric fans have been recalled for safety reasons.

The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department advises consumers to stop using Sanyo EF-12KA wall-mounted electric fans for safety reasons.

A joint investigation of a fire by the department and the product's local agent found the durability of the internal connecting cable to the oscillatory fan head might not be adequate, leading to a potential electrical short-circuit after prolonged use.

The agent has taken the initiative to conduct a voluntary recall of the fans. The fans concerned were supplied to the local market from March 1999 to September 2000.

Consumers are advised to return them to Sanyo Electric (HK) through designated collection centres as soon as possible. Their fans will be replaced with a new model. For details, call the local agent's enquiry hotline 8108 3331.
