Year's first imported cholera case confirmed

*
Department of Health

The Department of Health confirmed today the first cholera case of the year, involving a 37-year-old woman who travelled to Thailand during the incubation period. She is in stable condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Symptoms developed on January 30, and tests found the Vibrio cholerae. The case has been classified as an imported one.

Her home in Sham Shui Po was disinfected, and her family members and other tour members have been contacted. All are asymptomatic, except one who reported to have diarrhoea on January 29 and has since recovered. Tests will be conducted.

The department reminded people to observe good personal, food and environmental hygiene at all times to prevent cholera and food-borne diseases.
