Bus-accident rate continues to slide

*

The bus-accident rate has been sliding in the past four years, and measures are in place to ensure bus safety, Transport Advisory Committee chairman Cheng Hon-kwan says.

However, in light of the serious bus accidents which occurred in the past few months, the committee urged the Government and bus companies to examine ways to enhance bus safety.

Bus companies are conducting a comprehensive review of their safety arrangements, which is expected to be completed by January next year.

Number of transport complaints rises sharply

The committee also noted that the Transport Complaints Unit received a total of 4,469 complaints and suggestions from July 1 to September 30, an increase of 40.1% from the 3,190 cases recorded in the last quarter.

The cases were related to public transport services (69%), enforcement (15%) and traffic conditions (11%).

In the quarter, investigations into 3,997 cases were completed, and 38 suggestions were taken on board by relevant organisations to improve traffic and services.

Transport complaints and suggestions can be made to the unit by phone (2889 9999), fax (2577 1858), or email (info@tcu.gov.hk) - or online.
