Department of Health

The Department of Health has urged people to guard against mosquitoes after another imported case of Dengue fever was confirmed today.

The latest case involves a 31-year-old man who got a fever on November 10. He was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital on the 14th and discharged on the 19th. He was in a Southeast Asian country from November 2 to 6.

This brings the total number of Dengue cases to 45, including one local case.

The Department of Health reminds people to:

* put all used cans and bottles into covered dustbins;

* change water for plants weekly and leave no water in the saucers underneath flower pots;

* cover tightly all water containers, wells and water storage tanks; and,

* keep all drains free from blockage.

Travellers should:

* wear long-sleeved clothes and trousers;

* use insect repellent over exposed parts of the body; and,

* use mosquito screens or nets when their room is not air-conditioned.
