Aberdeen fish market takeover set for December 1
*
Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department

The Fish Marketing Organisation's management takeover of the seafood wholesale market on the Aberdeen promenade will be expedited to December 1.

The Health, Welfare & Food Bureau said the move comes after the discovery of vibrio cholerae at one of its wholesale stalls last week, and aims to better protect public health and ensure food safety.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department is working closely with the organisation on the takeover.

All relevant Government departments have pledged their full support in speeding up the process for land allocation and are working to meet the timeframe.

Under the organisation's management the incumbent wholesalers will be required to operate in a hygienic environment. Anyone failing to comply with the organisation's requirements will not be allowed to operate at the market.
