The Department of Health today confirmed another imported case of Dengue fever, bringing Hong Kong's yearly total to 44 cases - all but one imported.
The new case is that of a 44-year-old man. He developed fever, muscle pain and a skin rash on October 5 and was admitted to to a private hospital in Kowloon on October 11.
He was transferred to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for further management on October 14 and is now in stable condition.
He had travelled to a Southeast Asian country from September 26 to October 4.
The department urged people to take preventive measures against the disease, such as:
* putting all used cans and bottles into covered dustbins;
* changing plant water at least once a week, leaving no water in saucers underneath flowerpots;
* tightly covering all water containers, wells and water storage tanks; and
* keeping all drains clear.
Travellers should:
* wear long-sleeved clothes and trousers;
* use insect repellent on exposed parts of the body; and
* use mosquito screens or nets when the bedroom is not air-conditioned.
