Collection of used clothes
Community care: Salvation Army HK & Macau Command Major Alfred Tsang receives the donation of used clothes from  Director of Immigration Lai Tung-kwok.
*

More than 3,100kg of used clothes have been collected in a two-week campaign jointly run by the Immigration Department and the Salvation Army. They were donated to the needy in a ceremony today.

Director of Immigration Lai Tung-kwok said the campaign, held from September 26 to October 9, aimed to help the needy and support volunteer work.

It also inspired charity and mutual assistance, as well as recycling resources and educating youngsters.

During the campaign, counters were set up at staff quarters, control points and at Immigration Headquarters in Wan Chai to collect used clothes.

The department's Volunteer Work Team was established in June last year. Its 150 members took part in a variety of community services.

The team was later awarded a Gold Award for Volunteer Service by the Social Welfare Department in appreciation of its members' contribution of over 1,100 hours of volunteer service to the community.
