More than 200 tourists fined for littering
*

About 205 fixed-penalty notices for public-cleanliness offences were issued to tourists between June 26 and September 26, Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong says.

The figure accounted for 3.3% of the 6,267 notices served during the period.

Responding to a question from Raymond Ho in the Legislative Council today, Dr Yeoh said as at September 30, more than 50% of the notices issued to tourists had been paid. Penalties yet to be paid amounted to $150,000.

While the Government has so far received no complaint from tourists about inadequate publicity of the fixed-penalty system, a wide variety of tourist-oriented publicity and educational measures have been launched, he added.
