New bodies to promote sports culture

*

Two committees have been set up to promote a sports culture in Hong Kong. The Community Sports Committee will be chaired by Chau How-chen and the Major Sports Events Committee by Herman Hu.

The former will advise the Government on strategies to promote community participation in sports, and ways to foster partnership with different sectors in all 18 districts for promotion of community sport.

It will develop a closer working relationship with District Councils, local sports bodies and the education sector to promote activities and create a sustainable sporting culture.

The other committee will advise the Government on the initiatives for the promotion of major sports events in Hong Kong.

Through inter-sectoral collaboration, it will cultivate and mobilise corporate sponsorship and the support of key stakeholders from the sports, tourism and business sectors to host major sporting events on a regular basis, which will in turn add impetus to sports development and generate economic benefits to the community.
