Nine elderly people with fever and respiratory tract infection symptoms have recently been admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital.
The patients, three men and six women aged 81 to 93 from an elderly home, are being treated in the infection control triage wards. All of them are now in stable condition.
Initial diagnosis indicated they are suffering from respiratory tract infection. Further tests and examinations will be carried out.
The hospital has activated the infectious disease response Green Alert to co-ordinate necessary measures according to established guidelines and procedures on infection control.
The Hospital Outbreak Control Team has been activated to investigate the cause of infection and step up control measures.
The Hospital Authority and Department of Health have been notified. According to standard practice, no visits to the triage wards are allowed.
The hospital has been in close liaison with the Department of Health and the concerned old age home to facilitate the implementation of infection control measures at the home.
The hospital's Community Geriatric Assessment Team will provide assistance and support to the old age home.
The hospital reiterated that its service remains normal while the Green Alert is activated. All infection control precautions, including personal protective equipment, will be the same as those in established guidelines.
There is no need for visitors to the hospital to adopt additional precaution. The general public are reminded to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene.
