Street shows set for Central & Western
*

Street performances and Chinese arts and crafts demonstrations will grace the roads of Central & Western District this weekend.

To relaunch the district's economy and provide entertainment for residents and tourists, a series of performances and demonstrations will be staged on three consecutive Saturdays - August 23, 30 and September 6.

The events will be held at Upper Lascar Row, Ko Shing Street and Lan Kwai Fong and feature performances, free distribution of Chinese handicrafts and herbal medicine, and free medical advice from Chinese medical practitioners.

Demonstrations of Chinese handicrafts will be held 2pm-5pm on the three Saturdays at Upper Lascar Row (next to Man Mo Temple). Activities include tea-making demonstrations, an introduction to Chinese preserved fruit, candle making, miniature carving, flour figurines and paper cutting.

A carnival to promote Chinese medicine will be held 2pm- 5.30pm in Ko Shing Street on all three Saturdays. Visitors can view a display of genuine and fake Chinese medicines, purchase Chinese medicines, receive free medical advice and watch lion dances and traditional martial arts displays.

In Lan Kwai Fong, three street performances will be staged with rhythm and blues music from 7.30pm to 8.30pm on August 23, African Night at the same time on August 30, and a hip-hop magic show from 7.30pm to 9pm on September 6.

The events are organised by the Central & Western District Council and District Office, together with several local commercial organisations.
