Weather warning system under review

*
HK Observatory

The HK Observatory will review the existing typhoon warning system and seek further improvements with the media on releasing weather information.

Speaking on a radio talk show this morning, Observatory Director Lam Chiu-ying said it has been its practice to review and fine-tune its work each year after the typhoon season to provide better services to the public.

Regarding the hoisting and cancellation of typhoon signals, Mr Lam said the decision is always a scientific-based one with an aim to ensuring public safety.

He said Hong Kong handled the situation in an orderly way during Typhoon Imbudo's visit.

The Observatory also strives to use simple language to inform the public about weather conditions.

On the need to revise the existing warning system, Mr Lam said this has to be considered carefully as any change might have an impact on other aspects of the community.
