All aboard: Chief Secretary Donald Tsang and MTR Corporation Chairman Jack So launch the Team Clean Express, to help spread the "Live Hygiene, Live Health" message across Hong Kong. |
Many of the short-term measures published in Team Clean's mid-term report in late May have been carried out smoothly, Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang says.
Speaking at the launch ceremony of the Team Clean Express at Central MTR Station today, Mr Tsang said Team Clean is studying the report's long-term measures on how to make Hong Kong a cleaner place. The findings will be announced next month.
Since late May, various Government departments have adopted a no-tolerance attitude in their enforcement of environmental hygiene. Mr Tsang said this has been effective.
The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has cleaned public areas in 350 old-style buildings across Hong Kong.
The Buildings Department has inspected the external wall drainpipes of about 11,000 buildings without owners' corporations. About 1,000 letters have been issued to advise owners to undertake repairs and maintenance.
With the support of District Councils, improvements have been made to environmental eyesores.
The mid-term report details strategies for keeping Hong Kong clean, Mr Tsang said, adding that civic education and community participation are key to achieving sustainability.
The Government has produced a six-part public service announcement series to promote the importance of staying clean and healthy.
There are also plans to publish a booklet to consolidate and update all materials on the subject disseminated on various existing publicity leaflets.
Every household will be given a copy of the booklet, which will also be translated into other languages, in the near future.
