The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has allocated $9.9 million to 117 charitable projects in the medical and health, rehabilitation, social welfare, special education and community sectors.
The generous donation enables 87 organisations to improve and extend their services to benefit the community.
Among the projects, some of the major grants included:
* $1.3 million for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to acquire equipment for elderly and chronically ill patients, and organise education camps for mentally disabled children;
* $500,000 for the Samaritan Fund to provide financial assistance to needy patients in public hospitals and clinics;
* $400,000 for St John Ambulance to procure first-aid training and dental equipment;
* $400,000 for Pok Oi Hospital to establish an integrated functional rehabilitation unit; and,
* $300,000 for the Kiangsu & Chekiang Residents' (HK) Association to improve the nurse call system in the Tuen Mun Hostel for the Elderly.
Other fund recipients included the Salvation Army, Caritas HK, Ruttonjee and Tang Shiu Kin Hospitals, the Chinese YMCA, HK PHAB Association, Hong Chi Association, and the Christian New Life Association.
As one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, the fund was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung. It is now managed by the HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Ltd.
