Experts will work with Maryknoll Convent School next week to discuss preservation options for a Norfolk Island pine, the Development Bureau says.
The tree is on the school campus, which is a declared monument under the Antiquities & Monuments Ordinance. However, the school's landscape contractor said the tree is posing a potential danger to students and pedestrians.
The bureau said today the Government appreciates the school's concern and agrees if the tree poses significant risk priority should be accorded to ensuring people's safety.
A meeting with the school management has been scheduled for early next week. Apart from tree experts from within and outside the Government, representatives from the Antiquities & Monuments Office and the Architectural Services Department will attend.
Leisure & Cultural Services Department inspectors conducted a preliminary inspection of the tree Tuesday and said it is stable and healthy.
