15 beaches rated 'good'

*
Environmental Protection Department

The Environmental Protection Department has rated water quality at 15 beaches good for this weekend.

Compared with last week Hung Shing Yeh, Middle Bay, Shek O, South Bay and St Stephen's Beaches changed from fair to good. Turtle Cove Beach downgraded from good to fair. Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach changed from poor to fair.

The department said the changes are generally within the normal range of fluctuations of the bacteriological water quality of the beaches.

Anglers', Approach, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan, Lido and Ting Kau Beaches are closed year round due to poor water quality.

Many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggest during and after heavy rain. Bathers should avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.
