Anemometer design contest results out
*

Students of Ho Ming Primary School and Pok Oi Hospital 80th Anniversary Tang Ying Hei College have won an anemometer design competition organised by the Hong Kong Observatory and the University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Engineering.

More than 100 teachers and students from 18 primary and secondary schools participated in the contest. There were more than 20 entries and each had its own characteristics.

The junior category champion was a group of five primary students from the Ho Ming Primary School. Their anemometer was practical to use, easy to assemble for high portability, and able to display readings in real time. The group's written report was comprehensive.

Four Pok Oi Hospital 80th Anniversary Tang Ying Hei College students came first in the senior category. They successfully applied the principle of magnetic induction to record the rotational speed of the wind cup and the direction of the wind vane. The installation and operation procedures were also explained in detail in their report.
