Bountiful harvest: Agricultural Officer Chan Siu-lun displays the royal red rockmelon and the mini yellow watermelon.

Two new premium fruits cultivated by organic methods will be available later this month, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department says.

They are royal red rockmelon from Japan and mini yellow watermelon from Thailand.

The department held a seminar for local farmers today at Tai Lung Experimental Station to introduce organic cultivation methods for these two premium fruits.

The crop of royal red rockmelon gives stable yields and grows well in the local climate. The globe-shaped fruit has an even and distinct netting and its orange-red flesh is sweet and juicy.

The mini yellow watermelon is a vigorous and fast-growing species with a growing period of about 70 days. The fruit is oblong and green with dark green strips. Its yellow flesh with seeds is juicy, finely textured and sweet.
