New waste-separation bins launched

Launch of new waste separation bins

User friendly: Secretary for Environment Edward Yau (3rd from right) launches the newly designed waste-separation bins.

*

Newly designed waste-separation bins that are more convenient and user-friendly have been introduced in Lung Poon Court, Diamond Hill.

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau said the metal and plastic bins cater for the needs of different locations. Smaller, stainless steel bins are meant for indoor use while larger plastic bins are to be used outside.

The plastic bins are recyclable and more durable, Mr Yau said. Their large openings with self-closing lids make them convenient, and drainage holes at the bottom ensure they will not flood in heavy rain or catch fire from cigarette disposals.

Both types of bins will be distributed to residential, commercial and industrial sites while the plastic bins will be distributed to schools.
